Wheelabrator’s waste-to-energy facilities use advanced air quality controls and performance monitoring technology. They are regulated under environmental permits issued by the Environment Agency to ensure we operate our facilities safely and that we will fully comply with strict environmental laws.
We meet and exceed the accepted standards for air quality (set by the European Union under the Waste Incineration Directive, now covered by the Industrial Emissions Directive) and the terms of our environmental permits.
We will be applying for an environmental permit for Wheelabrator Harewood from the Environment Agency (EA). It will only issue a permit if it is satisfied that the facility is safe for the environment and the local community.
